Blog Tour of Blue Streak by Jules Barnard -- REVIEW

When I read the blurb of Blue Streak, I thought it would be another I-want-him-he-wants-me-but-he-chooses-to-be-a-player-to-protect-me type of romance. And it is! But I did not expect the twist in the story even though there was already a clue on the synopsis.

Title: Blue Streak (Blue Series #4)

SYNOPSIS:
He’s hiding a secret. She won’t settle for less.

Nessa Villanueva is tired of watching Zach Elliott go through women, while keeping her strictly in the friend zone. What Nessa doesn’t know is that Zach secretly puts her on a pedestal.

Zach feels dirty from the long-term affair he’s been having with his mother’s rich friend. Nessa’s too good for him, so he’ll do whatever it takes to keep her at arm’s length and protect her—even from himself.

But Zach doesn’t count on Nessa’s determination to break out of their friends-only relationship and show him how right they are for each other…

CHARACTER BACKGROUND:
Nessa Villanueva is half-British, half-Filipino (added points right there *knuckle bump*) with a passion for wearing high-heeled shoes. (Yes, it is to compensate for her incredibly short height.) She currently has no clear idea what to do with her life, and oh! She enjoys skinny dipping...in hot tubs.

Zach Elliot is messed up. Grew up with a gambling father, his mother passed away in an accident he finds suspicious, and he's been in a relationship (if that's what you can call it) with a married woman ever since he was 15 years old. He refuses to fall for Nessa because she's pure and he doesn't want to taint her. But he can only fight against it so much.

REVIEW:
I seriously found the female character more appealing because she shares the same amount of Filipino blood as me. It's just great that Jules Barnard made a character that isn't atypical, you know?

I loved the plot. I saw a lot of potential for it to be longer though, and I believe Jules should have taken that chance. It has a good twist, the characters were interesting enough, and Zach and Nessa have great chemistry. Basically I really liked the potential I saw in the book.

That being said, I felt like this would have been better if it was longer, more intense, and more elaborate. For the third time, this has the making of a really good novel. Is it possible to revise it or something?

I give this 3 stars. I'll go read the other books in the series, and I'll see which one is best.
