Review of XO, Blake by Avery Aster

This is not my first Avery Aster book but I can't exactly say that I have been following her work as well. So I guess it would explain why I jumped into XO, Blake without knowing that this is just a short spin-off of another series. I don't really like starting in the middle of a story, with the setting already well-established, if you know what I mean.

There were a couple of times I almost put my reader down for this reason but there was something--or someone--stopping me from doing so. Want to know what...or who it is?

Title: XO, Blake (The Undergrad Years #3)
Author: Avery Aster
Publication Date: June 9, 2015
Genre: New Adult, GLBT, MM Romance, Humor
Source: Copy Given by Publisher and Xpresso Book Tours

SYNOPSIS:

For fans of the dark comedy BDSM film Tie Me Up, Tie Me Down comes an erotic exploration in domination and submission where Ivy League students let their naughtiest desires run wild…

If you think my besties Lex, Taddy, and Vive have had some bad luck earlier this year, cut to me at Glamorama. Last thing I remembered was dancing with Diego and Miguel from my English class, when the room started… spinning. And not in a good way! We got sick. Think Regan in The Exorcist. Taddy was rushed to the hospital. Holding on for dear life, I was carried out by the boys and taken back to their dorm.

Now I’m waking up in Diego’s bed and Miguel keeps staring at me from across the room. I’ve wanted to get into these dudes’ pants since the first day of class. But Diego told me he likes to be tied up and—wait for it—spanked. WTF! The news on TV reports that last night we all got roofied. And Vive just texted me saying that someone is out to kill her. Could this semester get any more bizarre? -–Blake Morgan, college freshman, gay best friend, virgin

The Undergrad Years is a new adult contemporary miniseries about first loves, independence, and everlasting friendships.

REVIEW:

Ah, Blake. The ideal gay best friend any woman could ever ask for. He's such a powerful character. He has a very colourful personality, wonderful humour, and a very intriguing outlook on life. The author successfully depicted a person who is perfectly comfortable with who he is, as well as what he is.

XO, Blake is very well-written; the pace was just perfect, and it has the right mixture of giving the readers what they need and then making them want more. I don't know if it's just because the entirety of the book is from Blake's perspective, but it's just so funny. The kind of humour Avery used is the kind that appeals to me the most, so every page has been enjoyable to me.

It's a relatively short book but it's one that is full of... everything! I can't wait to read other books by this very talented author.
